Teething Essentials

Teething can be a nightmare for some and a breeze for others. Anthony had a tough time with his first few teeth. These are the items that I have personally tried with Anthony and loved the most. Numbers 6 and 9 are drops that I used to relieve some of Anthony’s teething pain instead of giving him medication. They are both homeopathic and do not contain benzocaine. I personally do not like products that contain a numbing agent because it can cause some difficulty in swallowing. Think about when you leave the dentist’s office: your mouth is numb; it’s hard to swallow. The same thing happens to infants when you apply numbing agents.

  1. Bella Tunno Teether: Not only is this super cute, but Anthony really enjoyed it as well. The material isn’t too hard, so it made it easier for him to grip. It is made out of silicone and non-toxic materials. Super easy to clean, dishwasher safe, and freezer safe.

  2. Chewbeads: This one was great for in the car - perfect to hang from the infant car seat. It was colorful, so it distracted him and kept him entertained while also soothing his teething pain.

  3. Elephant Teether: We liked this one because it was easy for him to hold and also incorporates sensory stimulation with the different textures. Easy to clean with soap and water, or even in the dishwasher. You can also place this one in the freezer.

  4. The Teething Egg: I really like this one for him now because it has the clip, and I don’t have to worry about him throwing it out of his car seat while I’m driving and then screaming for me to get it for him. Easy for him to hold and also soothes his gums.

  5. Drool & Chew Key With Rattle: These were probably one of his favorite toys until he discovered real keys. I keep them in the freezer for when he 1) falls on his face and hits his mouth, for instant relief and 2) when I see that a new tooth is coming in and his gums are completely swollen. I can tell that it helps him instantly. I usually rub the drops on his gums then give him this rattle for a few minutes while the drops kick in.

  6. Camilia Homeopathic Teething Relief (Non-benzocaine) I loved these drops because they really did help Anthony with his teething pain temporarily, or when the pain wasn’t too bad. I like that they are homeopathic and don’t use numbing agents. I personally don’t like to use anything with benzocaine in it because it numbs your mouth, and I know that when I leave the dentist after a procedure I have a hard time swallowing, so I didn’t feel comfortable giving it to Anthony.

  7. Sassy Flutterby Teether (Great for the freezer) This is a back-up freezer teether. I keep it in there with the keys just in case I forget to put the keys back, or if I notice the keys get warm and he’s still looking for that cooling sensation. The wings are soft and water-filled, and they provide a cooling sensation and immediate comfort. The high-contrast colors are definitely a hit in baby’s first few months, and the handle makes it easy for Anthony to grasp which helps to improve fine motor skills. It is recommended for 3+ months.

  8. Nuby Silicone Teether: This is still a fan favorite. I love that it comes in a case that you can place it in when you’re out and about. Good to keep in your diaper bag as a back-up since it’s thin and doesn’t take up a lot of space.

  9. Wellements Teething Oil (Organic and non-benzocaine) These are recommended for 4+ months. This is around the time I started using them for Anthony. I feel that these worked just as well as the Camilia Homeopathic Relief drops. I would start with these and then, if I felt like he was still in too much pain, I would go for the Tylenol. I tried to avoid any medications unless I knew he was really in pain.
